Bits from here..Pieces from there [Part -II]

Again.. some thoughts.. captured in those bits and pieces.... basically the insights of them are pretty vague to me..due to my lack of interest ... i presume to be coined as "Ignorant" only!!! Whatever... lemme be no pessismist and roll over my optimism... the spirit within me keeps the check.

Well, I just took down this day finally... the choice i guess is not bad at all...and (of course..better late than never )... some lines for the KING OF POP from my views. Firstly, a very Happy Birthday to the personality who has moonwalked into a different space , quite far from our grasp . Till today , I've remained a bit "desi " type... ignorant about the "videsi " cult..(sorry just a small break in my promise!! Excuse me.) And eventually it is quite tough for me to pen down any stuffs from the WestSide!!! But still I do feel a line or two can be penned down in memory of the greatest POP Singer the world witnessed ... at least I do have that much of capability..!!! LOL!! Anyways.. to be true I never had a knack for keeping informations regarding the singers down the west... i was pretty satisfied with my "desi" knowledge but I did keep a "bit n piece " knowledge regading those of MJ!!!... After all..you can't ignore the God!!!wat say????
But frankly, during my schooldays , i did doubt about MJ... was this amazing creation of God " a he or a she"..!!!! Sorry MJ!!! Your cosmetic surgeries are to be blamed..!!! Anyways , jokes apart.. I came to know about you from your signature dance steps!!!

Faalein .. Fahid tu toh fatafatii hain.!!!!

Oops..so sorry..!!!! Just got the Charlie “bite” right on my tongue.!!! Arre..Talent aache bhai..bole toh labh nei…simply kapiye diyechho ..!!!!!!Tukhor acting..!!!

Am I sounding bizarre? Umm..I stop then.!!! It’s just that I’m back from Inox after seeing Shahid Kapoor nd Co. ~z “Kaminey”panti..!!!!! And I’m bowled over by the neat execution of characters that uphold the spirit of “Kaminey”.

It has been a long time. The last time was Billu. After a long gap of 6 months, I’m back in the plexes with my popcorn tub and coke. And it felt good to catch a good movie after such a long time. The disappointing factor was ~ it was simply a “good” movie and nothing more. The expectation went down after the 2 hours 30 min approximate extravaganza. Anyways, will come to the explanation on expectation later on. I’m simply excited to pen down my first movie review in my very own space !!!!!

Though 5 minutes late , I thought that maybe I would miss a thing or two from the beginning. But that didn’t really bother. The story was woven around the typical 70’s theme of two brother getting separated in their childhood , both growing up in different environment ; thus one good Shahid “Guddu” Kapoor rises from one end while Shahid “Charlie” Kapoor at the other end and finally at the climax , Happy the Endings. The plot has been thrown within the genre of betting and gang war in “ amchi Mumbai” ~ a common affair of the city. So , the script really had nothing new to offer . Old saying goes for this : Old wine in a new Bottle.

Keep the old wine aside. The new Bottle is what that can drive the audience ‘s attention towards the movie. And that is the beautiful execution of the characters and splendid show of acing caliber. I’m confused a bit..umm..with whom should I start?? Well , let’s start with the central character only around whom the story has been woven .
Shahid has shown he is class apart. His chameleon act in the forms of Guddu (the good guy) and Charlie ( the notorious criminal) needs a standing ovation. He portrayed the two characters in such a fine manner ..you would never feel as if both the roles have been enacted by Shahid himself. So distinct and clear. He stands tall and without any doubt , he is the pillar of strength in this film. This work would remain as one of his best venture throughout his career.. I challenge. I take a bow (and especially after those visuals of your flexing of muscles..!!!Kudos)…
Next is Piggy Chops in the review avenue. And she is WOW!!! Again a brilliant piece of work. Fashion, Dostana and now Kaminey. Successively putting up such work makes it look so effortless job. Such is her capacity. And she is continuously developing herself as one of the fine actresses on Indian film industry. Piggy “Sweety” Chopz never really seemed to be just the hero’s heroine .. but one of the main protagonist and she uses her prescribed space damn efficiently. The scenes : excitement in Pri Chopra’s eyes when Shahid Kappor finally agrees to marry her ; tackling the goons during her marriage party or just before the climax ~ are some of them : HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!
Next in the ladder is Amol Gupte. Is he the same man behind “Taaren Zameen Par”??? I just wondered while I watched the whole movie. He seemed to be such a shy guy in those ward functions, it seemed. But no. Totally wrong … I was proved as this “bad man of Maharashtra “ took over the screen by storm. What a performance…simply overwhelming. Each of the frames are brilliant whichever belonged to him as he capitalized on it and delivered the finest of the acting skills. I’ve become your fan ,tubelight..( whatever.. you say.)..Sir..!!!!
No more discrimination required now..as all other people did have few screen spaces and yes, they were good. Again , this guy..Chandan Roy Sanyal (Charlie’s buddy) stands tall within them . Just today only I got to know his name in the t2. He made a fine debut with his “mad mad baady” act…!!! A bit of disappointment was : Rajatave Dutta was wasted. I expected a bigger and better prominence ,anyways maybe next time.

No more talks regarding Music. Already it is a chartbuster. Vishal Bharadwaj~ the music director can just do magic. And no exceptions here too. And as I move along , his directorial skill is way above my critical analysis. Only that this time , he has commercialized his story telling and thus a bit of change in direction. But even after such an appreciation..why do I say only “good” to this movie..???? Simply because, after Maqbool and Omkara , you easly hace your expectations geared up high. Though both of his masterpieces are adapted..but certainly getting them executed with the background of India was highly commendable job. But this time, as the script had no adaptation…it falls quite flat. It just do not match up with the earlier masterpieces. The characters are the only saviors in this plot!!!

Even today …the Lyangda Tyagi that Vishal created out of the metro sexual guy remains as one of the finest characters in the history of Indian Cinema. Yes , as Mr. Bharadwaj can spell magic with his creation of characters… so I do expect the same magic to thrive upon the story telling too.

[Meanwhile , I do have a tendency to read or hear the movie reviews from the esteemed film critics before I go for a movie. They warned that the movie had lots of twists and turns and you need to give a full on concentration or else you may miss out a big part. I remained cautious all along the movie after those precautionary notes. Neither did I find such “twists and turns “ nor did it seem that I miss a big part ( even though I was late..as I told you)!!!! I got confused : Who was dumb? Me ..or They? Anyways… ]

And while I sign off ….. Sss.ssssshahid Kapoor… tumi jjjjhhhhakasss..!!!!!!! Oops..this is the Guddu bite..!!!!

Bits from here..Pieces from there [Part -I]

I preferred to sketch some broad spaces like my previous posts… regarding some issues.. but unfortunately , I changed my mind. May be I could have skipped them.. but the bug to pen down thoughts on this current affairs has bitten me quite hard.. so I came back. Basically these issues had been blown to such an extent and covered up in each and every dailies , no new discussions can really be turned up for or against them. Some chewed up controversies..and some eyesores..!!!!

The first nomination of course sails over to our esteemed Hindu party.. The BJP ~ the “B”haratiya “J”ungli “P”arty..!!!!Right from the days they lost their elections, their “chintan” has stirred up controversies time and again..!!!! (..intentional..no doubt)… The so called “to be Prime minister in dreams “ iron man of BJP had started bad mouthing the Governemnt..and when it was not enough… the Vasundhara Raje controversy was succeeded by the expelling of Jashwant Singh from the party..!!!! With this latest “venture” , they clearly demonstrated how much democratic thoughts are lacking within the party ideals!!! Surely , Vajpayee is being missed . His absence has a clear impact : the ruining of party ideals. Jashwant Singh was a minister with proper ideals and thus was close to Vajpayee during his tenure as a Prime Minister ; a book published with a freedom of thought should have warmly accepted in a democratic country ..not banned in states or expelling the author without providing a word to say !!! Banning a book would never stop the ideas to flow ; but the change in ideologies would do with a positive motive. A party suffering from such mental strains and internal disruptions dreams of governing a developing nation!!! Certainly , maniacs they are..!!!!
I wish to say the national dailies to stop spending their valuable spaces for such harebrained individuals!!!!!

Moving on with my second nomination. What’s in a name..oops..”Khan”..!!!! Certainly..lots and lots into it. On the 15th ,as I switched on my television for NDTV, I was just keeping my fingers crossed ; hoping no controversial news or terrorist activity reports spring up!!! Bullshit!!! SRK stuck at Newark Airport for security checking…news channel certainly had that news to be telecasted solely!!! First glimpse, I got disturbed (being a SRK admirer)… but gradually got pissed off..!!!!! Rest of the day..and with the follwing days , the controversy kept on banging at each section… I asked to myself.. Was this the biggest news for upset !!!!! Surely “Celebrity worship” sees no bounds in this region of the Earth. The latest ~ Irfan pathan – on the verge- of being kissed ~ is another illustration!!! Certainly the SRK story needed to be told but was there any requirement for blowing up the issue???? The last piece was certainly “amusing”… “MY NAME IS KHAN “ got its publicity stunt!!! Lol!!!

Now I enter a different genre of discussion. It’s not the chewing gum story , but an eyesore stuff for me atleast. The front pages splashed photographs of Mamata Banerjee discussing about industrial developments in Bengal with the high profile industrialists!!! Was not this lady responsible for the countless strikes , for Nano’s dream run to end in Bengal???? Nothing much to say . I would be glad to see some promising projects in the heart of our State like you all… and then I would surely join you for a round of applause for the changing “Didi”..!!!

Fairly, quite enough regarding this discussions!!!!
Umm…I’m suddenly surprised..!!! Am I the person who is penning down on issues like this..!!! I can very well remember I skipped those political affairs and national news and jumped to the sports section of the newspapers..!!!!!!! even a year back!!!

Hmm…a wind of change within me too…quite a change. Loving it. Oh..i remembered something…England has won the Ashes… kudos to the blowing wind..!!!!

... And now the "Vedic" vandalism

History has evidenced. So did we. Long terms of repression by the dominating side has created some of the biggest turmoils in the history of civilization. And a small instance has again cropped up.
Parts of Bengal have started their protest march against the 33 year old regime , thus bringing in the winds of change. The stagnancy needed to be stirred and 2008-09 has already started moving down the pages of History. The huge uproar of “onicchuk chashi” followed by downswing in elections and proceeding to the Maoist protests have shaken the ground beneath the ruling government. And such is the huge impact, the left front seems to break down like a house of cards!!! With none of the injuries seeming to heal up ,another sudden impact slashes down its roots in a quick succession!!!! The latest that adds up : the scathe at the Vedic Village!!!!

My father practices at a Nursing Home in Baguiati and he has his several patients lining up from the areas where Vedic Village stands. The patients used to discuss the worsening of situations in livelihood as their lands were forcibly occupied for the development of this establishment. I hear my father citing an example of a farmer…” on one fine morning ,some promoters came up to his house and asked for the land in exchange of subscribed monetary …and after the deal was set… on that very midnight, the promoters made a comeback armed up to demand back the money from the farmer. The next day the farmer is landless without a single penny!!!! “…..

Just the story of a single individual… this kind of harassment and repression were carried by the promoters with the help of the ruling party over several lives to acquire the land for Vedic Village and take home the profits!!!! … The evil spirit of domination has acquired such a position that a defeat in a football match created in a fierce shootout!!!
Innocent lives lost, injured in this sudden outburst!!!

Just a perfect stage set up for the villagers to charge up and their wrath took the televisions by storm!!!! The seeds of suffering had been long sown by the promoters with the help of ruling party and after the sudden firing , the affected had no reason to stand back ; they retaliated..and retaliated hard to bring down the posh Vedic Village into ashes!!!

Nothing surprising!!! Maybe disturbing at the first look..but understandable with the second. How long can you pose like Gandhiji’s three monkeys and sit ??? As I mentioned before , its just History is on its repeat mode. Curbing of democratic rights followed by decentralization has to end somewhere. It is time for Bengal to witness it.

Yesterday , a patient has turned up at my father’s clinical den… he was shot at one of his legs yesterday during the football match. Well, I’m praying that he gets well very soon and immediately join the bandwagon..!!!! For the good, of course..!!!

Life In a "METRO"

The radical change in the political wind has maintained the hullabaloos within the state from the days when Bengal evidenced a shift from a 33 year old dominance. Issues, policies, motives stirring up from different corners have kept the headlines busy with them. Cooking them up with controversies has of course spiced up the drama!!!

The latest from the corner is the unveiling of the new route for the Metro Station from Tollygunj to Garia Bazar…oops wrong dude..Uttam Kumar to Kazi Nazrul Islam…!!! Sounds Dis… anyways…!!!!

..umm… back in 2005.. the work had just started seeing the light of the day…we friends used to see the construction works going on as we moved pas the Garia Station area for our college. As each year progressed, we used to ask ourselves, whether we could see this Metro Station ready before our graduation…aah..well..no more questions now though, the route has been made ready for a flag off.. though it took a few more days than we expected….anyways better late than never (as the saying goes..and this holds)…
Getting the whole Kolkata connected by the Metro has been quite an appreciable plan..but while I cross the roads adjacent to City Centre Mall and Sector –V , the visuals around pinches me hard..!!!!!! Large stretches of greenery uprooted.. road dividers vanished to pave way for the Metro..!!! The sight is horrible..at a time you would feel to go and straight away prohibit these actions..!!!!! But reality has been faced from the changing times.. urbanization leads to depreciation of natural resources..!!! So . no exceptions either..!!!!

Anyways.. I think I was not really intending to go into these stuffs… but to focus on the inaugural function of the Metro route from Tollygunj to Garia. Well.. nevertheless , quite an auspicious occasion it was!!! But as the program got telecasted , I was quite confused ~ was this an inaugural ceremony of Metro Station or a TMC rally ????...
[Before I make my further comments , I would like to mention that neither I’m inclined to “Left” or “ Right”… I support any ideologies (whichever team comes up with) that deals with the uplift of Common Man ]
The act of tollywood stars teaming up with the uprising political force of Bengal was wrapped under the Uttam Kumar trump card. Apparent view presented : In the Loving Memory of late Uttam Kumar , the Railway Minister does the formalities; Actual Inner View prescribed : another campaigning of TMC with some people from industry “officially” shifting their sides..!!! The natural tendency is to oil the stronger section .. so this show was no exception either!!!
(Meanwhile.. did you notice Tapas Pal… oh I did…and got confused with my first sight.. I felt that I saw some “local gunda” with our “beloved” didi..!!!! )

Now,Left Front has been left back with its loopholes in the recent days…. thus gradually loosing their three decades old foothold..!!!! But atleast , the contribution of theirs in this Metro Rail development should not have been bypassed..!!! The Railway Minister should have invited the Chief Minister and State Minister with a more cordial manner without thinking of the political differences, it was a State affair after all..!!!! umm..can’t be helped.. every dog has his day…rather sessions..!!!!

And yes yes… the “tamasha” that lies ahead .. I feel is with the saying “What’s in a name????”… one of the worthless saying.. to be dumped..!!!! The “tamasha” is of couse distinct when you see a metro rail staff saying ….. “ dada, ekta Uttam Kumar 6 taka”..!!!!! The Chief Minister , though, pointed out this..but have been involved in this coining affair before..!!!
It’s not restricted to Uttam Kumar , Kazi nazrul islam.. but extends to Rajiv Gandhi in the central. Though we know , there is Mahatma Gandhi Road, AJC Bose Road… but the continuous usage of names of such personalities in coining different projects certainly does not describe the true respect toward them… these human beings have immense contribution in their fields of work and just a statue at one corner..or using his/her name does not stand tall..!!!! The duty lies in extending their ideals by proper and efficient hardwork with truly dedicated and anti-corrupted mindset!!!! The packaging does not help , but the actual content does. Those great personalities have laid the foundation stones.. our job is to concretize the projects for a prospering tomorrow..!!!!!

The inaugural of the Metro station has thus lit up the sparks…and in the coming days … the sparks seems to get more excited… hey there…fingers on the triggers ..!!!!

Dedicated to the Voice of Common Man...

Another piece of memorabilia only. While sketching down the gleeful moments in one of my previous blog regarding 3rd of August , another sketch of an incident struck my inner mind. And I needed to pen it down. The sudden demise of the man – a true leader of the masses – the voice of common man ~ yes none other than our Sports and Transport minister Subhash Chakraborty.

Well, while the eyes scroll though newspaper columns and land up at the news of “Swaaransabhas” of this individual , I still find it hard to believe that this Man is no more. True. He will always be in the hearts of his innumerable followers , but the disappearance of his physical existence will cost a lot. I have experienced that.

Just an year ago. The same old story of owner-renter feud. Basically , we used to give away our ground floor on a rent for office purposes to many private firms for years. Several came and went. But the 2002 gang was horrible!!!! The firm had its business in dredging and used to get Government contracts in such jobs. Few years went away without any hassle. But it was after 2006, I guess they suddenly stopped paying the rent themselves in their scheduled time and every month we really had to beg for our share. Things went like this , but entered a bitter road as one day suddenly the firm owners challenged us . Exchange of foul words, and followed up by police intervention highlighted the issue. Though, we had our support from our relatives and neighbors ; but we were challenged by the private firm as they continuously showed their “strong” political connections. Well at this moment of time, I guessed things would move into a more darker zone. But luck was by our side. Dad had some sources through which he approached Subhash Chakroborty and once the matter reached there..well within a few days of time , we had regained control over our ground floor.

Not really interested to go into the detailing of this episode , but just the conclusion that ~ Subhash babu was the true helping hand of the Common People like us. What is so admirable, so appreciable is that he had lend out his supportive hand to any people whoever approached him despite of having differences in their political thoughts.
He had his own thoughts and tried to garner them, often landing up in controversies but what so ever, he had always been an active personality of his team.
He gained the confidence of the masses and was a Winner all the way. Pros and cons are parts of every Human being. So , despite the cons , his contribution is unforgettable.

As newspapers reported the serious deterioration of his health , like his followers , I too believed he will brave away all the odds this time too to regain his Winning position. But Reality had some other tale to tell. 3rd August does not really mark the demise of Subhash babu.. but curves a black mark in the history of West Bengal Government. Will there be another person to whom you could reach out easily with your problems being assured that they are going to be solved?? I guess..the answer is NO.

As words fall short… so did the stock in flower shops get exhausted as Subhash Chakraborty ‘s body was taken for cremation. I did not know how to react..as one shop owner was heard saying : “ We do not remember whether me or my past one or two generations had witnesses such a sell in flowers till date”… truly touching.

The whole Kolkata seemed be on the streets on 4th August to catch a glimpse of the Winner. And he stayed a Winner I must say. That is why he bid an adieu before the Assembly Elections of 2011..!!!!!

THANK YOU, Mr. YASH

Yashodeep Sengupta. My brother. My friend. He is one of those guys with whom I teamed up in the UKG days and share an unforgettable rapport.

TESTIMONIAL OF MY BUDDAY chana..

A thanksgiving I promised to this old buddy of mine. Finally got my digital ink uncorked to scribble down some thoughts for this kid. An apology I take, beforehand , if my thoughts do not get perfectly sketched down; but without any doubts the feelings that I will mix n match are true from the core.
Yes, this note is dedicated to our most beloved “nano babu” Kinjal Kumar Das. Fine..I unveil this name today here in this space to describe my beloved tiny friend. Boy, take it as a compliment.Hee Hee. And yes , Why did I promise him to present a note? Well, well…. Simply because he turned out to be my accomplice in those early days of college …yup the partner in crime in bunking classes to catch movies , hanging up at the foodie zones and yes, many more.
But this not a note to carry out his flaws and laws in life, neither his pranks or ranks in class; it is a simple memorabilia of those 3rd August birthday bashes from the beloved Kinjal mamu. Why do I remember his ? Well..I got invited to the very first bash of his after the college session got started while the ties have just started to grow ; quite an early stage of friendship I would rather say… and still getting an invitation was completely out of the blue issue for me. Whatever, I was damn excited. And yes , the 3rd Augusts became a straight away blockbuster from the word go. And why not, when the star cast was so perfect…!!!! Lolzz..!!!

Scene 1 .
Date: 3 rd August 2006 ~ Time: 1 PM approx ~ Venue : Menoka Cinema Hall & the forgotten Restaurant

“What the f**k..!!!! I do not know the exact location.Absolute shit for these novice!!! “… I said to myself. And Arka seems to give a smile in despair. Boo hoo…!!!! I’m sweating..!!!! Gotta reach for Omkara …and we are running late. Damn it… first time extravaganza to an outing zone so unknown..!!!God..!!!! “Fine..no issues..will ask the local people for guiding us”…I console myself. Yes , Sir.. Arka and me have least idea of the route to Menoka from Ultadunga and still upbeat to catch the movie and gulp the treat. Arka is still on a silent mode. The Anandamela stoppage at Gariahat was our first stop.We left the bus to march off to Golpark.Umm..how far is that..???
“Ask the Aunty..What say”…. I reply “ Good One. Arka”.
“What is the mode of transport ..bus or auto…I need to reach Golpark”…
“Crap!!!! You kids…take a walk..it is visible from here…you people ask transport ????..huh…”….

Run I said to myself. And dragged Arka. We didn’t know whether to laugh or feel embarrassed !!!! I just took a quick look at that lady . She had an awkward facial expression. Of course, she was puzzled to encounter two clowns in the mid day..!!!! Anyways.. I guess..it’s over.!!!!

Walking with large steps indeed … phone calls got exchanged with kinjal … the more he says we are near to the movie hall, the more far it seems. God..!!10 minutes have flied away….Where is the damn hall..?????

“Cab..That will be of a help “…Arka’s instant suggestion. The cab driver instantly agreed as I abided by Arka’s words. And the irony again. Just 2 min ..and we were in front of the hall..!!!!!! I looked at Arka. Arka looked back at me. Now we could not stop laughing. And asked..”what’s more in stock”…!!!!!!!

Well..Avi and Sohini were waiting for quite a long time.. and that mini brat..was still late.Anyways ,luck at last shone upon us.Kinjal was in.And so were we. Accompanied with the birthday boy , it was a grand movie watching session followed by a voluptuous treat at a restaurant down south. Umm..sorry bro.. after all these hiccups , the restaurant name is no more etched in my silly memory.

Wow..!!! What a day it was..!!!! And yes , the joyride has begun.

Phew..!!!damn memorable..!!!!

(Preamble : our gang had browsed through the alleys of New market to pick up the goodies for the budday boy. Frankly , I’ve forgotten the previous year gifts…but maybe “Fanaa” was a part of one..wasn’t it…Umm..anyways, everything went well with a nice packaging from my side…but the Wrist Watch broke my trust…L )

Well Borda and me…teamed up at Ultadunga…joined Raihan and Choco at Gariahat…and without any hassles , we were in. Thanks Chockz. And it comprised one of my rare visit to the old paras of Kolkata. I loved it. The roads, the buildings different in their appearances excited the optic nerve.. I must admit. So, is Kinjal’s sweet den , structured in the old fashion but renovated few months back. Loved your house , buddy seriously.

But..but…but…the USP was neither the old para..nor Kinjal’s house…it was Kakimaaaa…!!!!!!!! Huh..!!!

Well, no options were left other than laying down our body in Kinjal’s drawing room..after such an “unauthorized MOGHUL attack”… Burp…Burp..Burp..Burp…endless..!!!!! Skipping the TV channels after channels.. with chits and chats …the lazy afternoon was quite spiced up…..

Tring!!!Tring!!!..Game over…another dusk of 3rd August approaches….A bit of walk…then Metro..couple of miles in Auto…Another bit of walking…Back to the pavilion..!!!!

(Preamble : 1.The Host has rescheduled the 3rd August invitation due to certain “not-so” unavoidable circumstances. LOL!! Anyways , excused for your appointments dear!!!
2. Sanchita, Paulami and me have decided to take up some strategy for 9th ; of course to defend KAKIMA’s scoopful attacks)

I’ve grown up , Daddy. Traveled straight to Kinjal’s home without any guide. It was exclusively me..!!!!! Claps for me..anybody????..Whatever , I was late,,due to my classes..yes horribly late..to turn up as the last guest in that entitled list..!!!

Kakima gave a broad smile at my presence. But I was simply sketching my game strategy…at the lunch session!!!Anyways , fried rice served hot with chicken were served soon..and yes Kakima was back on track..!!!!!!! Kick off you strategy..!!!!!All went in vain..!!!!!! And we were still the same , scenario as it was a year back…!!!!

Mamu had his machine on to cool us off…..thankz buddy..!!!! And we felt better. Tummy seems to burst out; but somehow we managed.
Gradually , with our laughathons we were back in form…and some already done with their siestas … we jumped up for another grand photo shoot extravaganza…. Big one for the first time at Kinjal’s budday bash…(Yup..I’m cherishing them still.now..lovely)

Another grand episode comes to an end.

CURTAIN.

4 instances. Memory for my lifetime. And wait a minute.I suddenly realize, while I touch the last leg of this passage…I’m that sole guy who was present in all these four occasions till date. Yes, there were many invitees , and they had missed out on one or two instances. Aha, feeling more special. Wow..I was a part of each and every celebration. Kudos to me. Without any doubts, 3rd August has become special in my yearbook.

So…3rd AUGUST 2010 is beckoning..!!!! Yes..mamu..the countdown has begun..!!!!! I’m gearing up..

IS THE GRAPH “V Shaped”?

Unpredictable. Some say it is true early to assess. Some nods . Some does not. But is it the end of Recession??? Different are the views , different are the findings. Difficult to conclude.
News reports are healthy. Sure to bring back smiles that got lost under a long term depression. The economy is recovering after the Great Depression. But the way is too long to reach a stabilized zone. The impact had been huge as all of us know. To restructure from the debrises , the developed and developing nations need to cross numerous hurdles.
Going by the statistics, US was the worst affected while India the least. But certainly clients were present all over the world. So the economies could not escape the tight slaps on their faces.
Well, I am no economist to judge the situations on a broader aspect ; I’m an amateur right up at this zone. But what I saw, what I read will only get reciprocated in this space. I would be comfortable to start the topic from India only, precisely it will be Kolkata.
A year ago or even a few months back , the employees of KFC n Pizza Hut were roaming around without much service up at their sleeves ; malls were crowded but cash boxes stopped ringing. People mostly gathered for the chit chat sessions but kept a good check on shopping. Well job cuts or even salary cuts were few with respect to those European and American nations out here. Thank you, Mr. Government. And certainly the ill effects were quite low. The emergence of festive season is the sole sufficient proof.
The KFC boys are packed up with work. The Pantaloons and Shopper’s Stop is filled with customers. Yes, customers. With festivals making its way back , the shopping spree is back with a bang. People out here became a bit cautious as newspapers reported the Economic melt down and were busy with the savings; but now have become aware of the no-risk factors within India and gradually pumping out their cash reservoirs. Seriously, a weekend visit to Pantaloons would be the perfect piece of evidence for the given facts. Billing machines are punching few thousands bucks per individual…. And You say..Recession..!!!! Lolzz..!!!!
Well whether it is dining and entertaining , fashion and accessories or high end gadgets , spenders are no longer holding back any longer in anticipation of happier times ahead. Way to rise, boo hoo !!!
The MNC’s are even interested to recruit freshers from the campuses in the coming days… Nothing better than that , if it is true..!!!!
The scenario takes a bitter turn in the next avenue for India then. The reason: Monsoon has been shying away from Indian waters and agriculture. Whatever was predicted regarding the arrival of monsoon had gone all wrong ; and rainfalls seem to make a cameo in some parts of the nation. Though the previous monsoon seasons have led to good storage of crops in the storage , but it now seems inadequate as the demand will grow in the coming months if monsoon does not change its mood. India being primarily dependent on agriculture would soon get a thrash in its economic growth ; lesser availability would lead to the usual practice of surging in prices, affordability would decrease and finally the economic growth curve will bow down.
At this crossroad , it is a bit difficult to predict on whether the growth curve is V shaped or not. It may be a W shaped one…fall-rise-fall-rise and if we are at the second phase , certainly bigger headaches are up at our forehead.
Moving out from India , as I touch upon the European nations and American nations, the reports show a healthy improvement from the previous months. GDP has shown a positive move , flat and housing prices have started to increase with increase in sales. The Government intervention has worked for these nations; and for US economy , it has immense ability to adjust the economic environment by allowing outdated industries to die or restructure , and it is one of those early signs of recovery. But as already mentioned , the path to stabilization is quite steep; fall in unemployment rates would take quite a long time to materialize. Basically the past reports are not so optimistic. Unemployment rate has often remained high and rising for months after US economy has emerged from recession earlier.

The penned down thoughts from various articles clearly depicts a blurred picture of the economic growth. Would the curve follow the V-shape or get entangled in a W-shape is what we need to wait and watch. Fingers crossed!!!!

FISH FLU…anyone????

Sorry, bad joke though. But I’m pissed off…!!! Was not the avian influenza enough? Now it’s the bloody swine.
Few years back, H5N1 created panics all over the world and now it’s H1N1..!!! Maybe some more species are waiting to get transmitted through the bodies of fishes in the coming days..Oh God..!!!!
I’m not pissed off with the virus…mind you..but with the controversies that is doing a buzz around!!! The day Swine flu got detected, controversies followed from the social to political arena. Could not that be avoided?
Yes… easily. If the government work more and talks less , it can be.
It is stated that the flu is caused by a mild virus and effective treatment at the proper time would lead to complete healing .
7 deaths out of a 1.14 billion population should hardly create a field for controversy as more people die of malaria, tuberculosis and other familiar diseases. But some silly talks pinching the sensitive zone created a hullabaloo in the centre.
By now , enough has been done to kick the ass and make Government work. I just want to say : PLEASE DO NOT PANIC.AND STOP CONTROVERSIES.
Oseltamivir phosphate drugs are permitted for retail sales make a big opening to a better and effective treatment. Scaling up the clinical testing facilities are applaud able measures. To facilitate public places with hand cleansers accompanied with individual hygiene sense would resort to a no problem zone simply.
The Government should readily do away with the subsidiaries and allow the virus combating drugs to be available to retail shops and private organizations thus offering enough opening for the availability of drugs. It would readily do give a psychological boost to people that Help is close at hand!!!!

The danger of self diagnosis and hoarding, and the possibility of immunity arising from improper dosage by worried citizens can be tackled with effective awareness campaighns. Serious issues like AIDS or Polio are being combated with proper awareness facilities , so why not a mild flu??

Extreme measures of closing down schools , colleges or malls would be no need if the Government can ensure through media channels that remedial measures are available and are plentiful.
It is just clever tackling of problem that could easily produce effective results. I see no reason to panic if people keep up a hygienic precautions and disceptation if the working committee remains effective in its own prescribed job.

Maybe , there will be some other species who would be the victim … thus a new type of flu would crop up; but certainly I would wish the problems to be tackled without creating a fuss..!!!
The blame game is damn boring , Sir.

TIME TO CHANGE , man!!!

Yes Sir , those were the words that got stuck in my mind as I did the passage . Umm..could have asked the same question to Sajal Sir, but maybe at that point it was irrelevant to discuss. Oh I’m so sorry readers…I went a bit deep missing the intro part.
Few days ago, I did a passage on “Mime” at the English workshop (Chrysalis). A well composed piece; it was basically an extract from a Mimic’s notes on the days when people turned up at the theatres to catch up the Mimes for the evening amusements. The piece dealt with the brainchild of various directors and technicians , the hidden intensity of an actor to portray the characters and connect them with the spectators of the arena.
Everything seemed fine with the passage…but while the author showed a disappointment regarding the fading away of those mimicry art and respective degradation in the quality of the same , my little brainy boy started knocking me. Wazzup??? Hey Bro, isn’t that a natural stuff…!!!! ~ brainy boy immediate response.
Umm..why??
Oh boy…. You are in the 21 st century. Don’t you realize????? Those 86400 seconds are now no longer a big deal. It’s a wink of an eye, dear. Packed up routine, diaries filled with appointments , cell phones in the active state …. And you still feel that you have time to engage yourself in those lengthy modes of entertainment… grrrrhhhh..!!!!!!
Brainy disappeared. Within the woods of my cranial nerves now I guess. I scratched my head up n down to check Brainy. Well yes, he has gone back.
And yes, Now I realize certainly those words were true. WHERE IS THE TIME, MAN?????????
True. Very True. While tracing the life of the modern man, it is quite realizable how badly he is stuck in those work traffic zone. Life is a lot more complicated issue now. And eventually, the inner thought process have become perplexed. The market is damn competitive outside , and so willingly or unwillingly you are in the rat race. And when you are out in the ground , simply it is do or die.
At this juncture , it is indeed natural the tastes and moods take up a varied road. It no longer traces those earlier modes , but bit by bit changes its orientation. And the main theme is : TO BE SHORT N COMPACT.
Those daily doses of entertainment are still prevalent , but in a much compact version. You can’t have a whole evening to gain a visual pleasure and let your mind play with those art of mimicry , but you need to be served with a dish that’s catchy and fits in your entertainment curriculum easily.
Clean and Clear. If the minds are set to produce such modes of entertainment , you won’t possibly find brains who would devote time for those mimics. The so called dedicated brains are now working upon more interesting projects that the modern man can relate to with more ease.
The illustration, as I did, was more based on entertainment features but it is true for each n every aspect of our life. The daily gadgets we use , the daily norms we follow have accelerated their pace to keep up with the changing times. Nothing is permanent, dear. Harsh, but true. The word ‘monotony’ and ‘boredom’ are so frequent that the quest for a change , the hunt for something new is always up on the ladder.

‘Dhan te naa..ta naa naaa..!!!’… Oh ..My Brainy Boy is happy. I know why. Ultimately, I could pen down what he was scribbling in my tiny grey zone!!!!!Phew…

Animating the Era...

Whether Akki gives a voice over for Jumbo. Or Hanuman and Krishna grasping the Big Screen. Zoozoos squeaking all over those TV commercials. Certainly yes, the Animation world has caught the world at large. And India is no far behind..Hadippaa!!!!!

Real life characters are an old story now. And thus those people in flesh and blood seems to fail in their popularity nowadays.Boo hoo!!! It is the animation industry has created a helluva impact on the entertainment genre and got the attention at large. Projects are getting piled up in this sector ; the demand is full on!!!!

Movies to advertisements ; campaigning to publicity stunts ~ the world of animation has traveled far and wide. What underlines the success mantra ? Well, animation gives a lot of possibilities and thus opens up avenues to experiment which real life may fail to do; helps the audience to identify the real life scenarios with a certain twist in tale thus making it out of the box.
The animals around us : the dogs or cats , the mice or squirrel, the fishes or birds are projected to tell a tale which we human beings can characterize with. And the funny tweaks add up to the charm of these stuffs. The animated characters composed with the beautiful scripts have made us fall in love with Kung Fu Panda or Stuart Little or Wall-E time and again. They have etched a certain place in the core of our heart , as if they are our very own. Virtual, yet so real. The well thought concepts behind these works have made animation a genre to crave for.
As European or American countries advanced in this world of animation, so has India joined the bandwagon thus evolving out as a fine player. Ancient myths and fables are being revisited through the animation world and has caught the nation at large.
The renowned production houses from Bollywood or regional sectors are investing their monetary funds for the proliferation of animation in our country; quite a number of animated movies land up on Friday mornings for the kids and their parents.

As talked earlier , the animation industry has crossed the barriers and has patched up with advertisement world. Such is the impact that animated model is fast replacing the celebrities from brand endorsement circuit. And without any doubts , Zoozoo (the egg shaped blown up characters used by Vodafone) receive special kudos for the popularity of animation in advertisements. These zoozoos became an overnight sensation with their silly ,or witty acts and people across ages loved them. And how could one forget the Mentos ad featuring Gaddu (the donkey ) and monkey turned Modern man : concept so noble yet damn sarcastic in presentation!!!!
Brands of fizzy drinks to air fresheners , websites to mobile communications are banking upon animation based advertising to come the clutter of celebrity over skill, making cost effective ads and in some cases, rejuvenate brands. But it is still quite expensive and make the technicians sit in the studios for long to achieve perfection sprinkled with the freshness and surprise packaging.

It is basically understood human beings love to play with their imaginations. The Brain supplies a lot of thought processes that Man craves to explore ; to create a sort of a world that he thinks in the midst of real world. The actual possibility is always nullified. And thus creeps in a virtual world that grows and prospers. It is this virtual world that comprises of the animated characters : a bit inspired from a man’s real life scenario and remaining ones proceeding from the abstract thoughts that plays around. No two words to this opinion stands ~ as long as these thought processes are on, the visuals will continue to flow out. And with new minds joining the thinking mill, innovative ideas would gradually come to the forefront thus making the world of Animation an ever green and ever cherishing field to cultivate on.

Joy Baba TollyNath!!!

The Bengali film industry finally seems to smile. And yes, the cash box is ringing. Quite after a long period of time, Tollywood has come of age. Certainly , it is a good news for Bengal or rather the ‘Bangalis’.

With all Brad Pitts, Leonardo Di Caprios; or those Amirs and Shah Rukhs stealing the show , Tollywood was eventually out of the race..the survival seemed so feeble. We, the Bengalis, had to stick to those Uttam-Suchitra , Soumitra- Aparna eras if we ever wanted to check out a Bengali flick. It’s not only me but people from my generation would never give a second thought to check what were the latest stock from Tolly section ; because we felt them simply sub standard. Ridiculing the Bengali film artists and their works was what we were left with even if a topic on it cropped up; otherwise it is simply a waste of time.
The Prasenjits and Tapas Pals may have contributed a lot in this Bengali film industry ; but unfortunately they had to remain satisfied with the response from rural sections of Bengal. It was not their mistake. They suffered from the rigid mindset , they suffered from the lack of visionary of the Bengali film unit technicians. The vacuum in the production houses made these “Baba keno Chakor “ or “Mayer Sopoth” the most underrated films of any era. The lack of investment and sudden decaying of creative thoughts had almost paved the way for those B grade movies all over the years. Bengali film industry was almost creeping into its Death Bed.

The Mega Serials were the platform to reach to the urban crowd , and yes it did as the title track of the serials started babbling out from neighboring house during the evening hours. It was considered a rather sophisticated ,creative and a standard medium for us to accept ; the popularity says so. Its been quite a long time that these soaps have captivated the Shohure bangali and is still on with flying colours. Kudos , Star jalsa.

But these soapy tales are not my point of concern , but their production houses are. They are some of the Corporate houses who have finally blessed and managed to provide the glitz and glamour to this decaying industry.
As individuals like Rituparna Ghosh , Aparna Sen , Anjan Dutta, Goutam Ghosh positioned themselves behind the camera taking on Parambrata ,Saswata Chatterjees , Sabyasachi Chakrobortys a series of though provoking , some commercial or arty type flicks churned out thus dragging the Rural Bengali population to return to the Cinema halls after a long time. Yes, we now find people from the metropolis catching up the Bengali flicks on the V-Day. Gradually, with ample investments in bengali projects, it’s a merry time in Tollyland.
Proper pre production to post production works ;providing copious publicity to these Bengali films have made the Box office laugh out with pride. Even Raj Chakrobortys and Ravi Kinagis teaming up with Devs and Rahuls are tapping out blockbusters with their not-so-sensible stuffs. Sorry , it is rude to say so but still these commercial flicks need to deliver the quality. Malaysia to Australia are the hotspots for shooting these flicks or the music videos which seemed far from reality even few years ago. The Bengali music scores from the commercial Bengali flicks are the new entries into the mobile play lists ; reality shows have contestants gearing up with the foot tapping numbers…strange, yet so very true.

Truly the bunch of producers from Venkatesh films to Moxie Entertainment deserve kudos for bringing Bengali films back to the limelight. Their sincere effort and proper visualization has finally put back Bengali flicks in their proper channel for their growth and popularization ; which was certainly facing the biggest draught of all times few years back. But still there are spaces to be taken care of ~ the industry people need to be aware of the fact that the audience wants quality films , not the tawdriness . It may work for sometime but not in the long run.
Though the default commercial Bengali flicks are still not matured enough for grasping the metropolitan crowd , but hopefully the golden days are ahead. Because the journey has begun.
Well being “Madly Bangalee” , I want the Bengali film industry to flourish more and more with handful of promising projects that would provide recognition from all over the globe. Seriously, could not ask for more.
And as the appreciations are going to dance in, so will the cash boxes take the dance floor with “Bhojo Gourago Loho Gourang-er Naam re “..Hit It!!!!
